Item Overview
This archived listing documents an Apple Power Macintosh 8500/132,
a later revision of Apple’s high‑end PowerPC desktop line from the mid‑1990s.
This unit was evaluated and sold as a vintage collectible suitable for restoration,
retro computing, or historical reference.
- Model: Power Macintosh 8500/132 (M3409)
- Year: 1996
- Processor: PowerPC 604 @ 120 MHz (8500/132 revision)
- Memory: 128 MB RAM
- Storage: None installed (no hard drive present)
- Assembly: Assembled in USA
Condition at Time of Sale
At the time of evaluation, the system successfully booted from Mac OS installation media,
indicating that the CD‑ROM drive was functional. No internal hard drive was present.
- Booted successfully from a Mac OS CD
- AppleCD 600i SCSI CD‑ROM read discs and booted the system; slightly noisy during operation
- System date and time were incorrect, indicating a depleted PRAM battery
- Floppy drive testing was attempted; creation of installation diskettes failed verification,
suggesting possible drive unreliability
The CD‑ROM drive was missing its external plastic bezel.
The enclosure was in generally good condition for its age, with the exception of a broken plastic
piece between two PCI slot covers that occurred during case removal for photography.
The broken plastic piece was included with the unit.
Overall case plastics were brittle and yellowed, consistent with a nearly 30‑year‑old Macintosh.
Apple documentation indicates that this model is capable of running later versions
of the classic Mac OS, up to Mac OS 9, when properly configured.
Included / Not Included
- Included: Desktop unit, broken plastic fragment
- Not Included: Hard drive, hard drive caddy, monitor,
keyboard, mouse, power cable, Mac OS installation media
Archival & Collector Notes
This system was sold as‑is due to its age and incomplete configuration.
Floppy disk reliability issues were common even during the system’s original service life,
and brittle plastics remain a known limitation of this chassis family.
This archived listing is maintained for long‑tail search visibility and may be useful
to collectors, restorers, or researchers studying later Power Macintosh 8500 revisions,
high‑memory configurations, and transitional mid‑1990s Apple hardware.
This archived listing is preserved for historical reference and collector research.
