Description

Status: Previously sold. This listing is preserved as a historical archive and reference only.
If this model becomes available again, it will be listed separately as a new item.

Item Overview

This archived listing documents an Apple Macintosh Quadra 800,
a high‑end 68K‑based desktop Macintosh introduced in the early 1990s.
This unit was evaluated and sold as a vintage collectible intended for parts, repair,
research, or historical reference.

  • Model: Macintosh Quadra 800 (M1206)
  • Year: 1993
  • Processor: Motorola 68040
  • Memory: Unknown; two installed 72‑pin SIMMs labeled “LASER PRINTER MEMORY X4”
  • Assembly: Assembled in USA

Condition at Time of Sale

At the time of evaluation, the system did not successfully boot and did not produce video output.
When the power button was pressed, the computer emitted the standard Macintosh startup sound,
followed immediately by an additional musical sequence that ended with dissonant tones.

  • Powered on and played startup chime
  • Played a secondary melody sequence following startup
  • No video output observed
  • No successful boot sequence achieved

A video recording documenting the startup sounds was captured and included with the listing.

During troubleshooting, the motherboard was removed and the installed memory reseated.
The two SIMMs installed were labeled as printer memory modules, and reseating did not alter behavior.

The onboard lithium battery showed significant corrosion, and there were clear signs
that liquid had been spilled on the motherboard at some point.
These conditions were documented in the accompanying photographs.

Installed Components (Untested)

  • SCSI CD‑ROM drive (caddy required; not included) – operating condition unknown
  • Floppy drive installed – not tested due to failure to boot

Physical Condition

The enclosure showed substantial age‑related cosmetic wear.
The plastic was brittle and yellowed, consistent with a system approaching 30 years of age.
Two rubber feet exhibited broken plastic, and there were dents visible in the rear case plastics.
Additional scuffs, scratches, and wear were present.

Included / Not Included

  • Included: Desktop unit only
  • Not Included: Hard drive, hard drive caddy, monitor, keyboard, mouse,
power cable, Mac OS installation media, CD‑ROM caddy

Archival & Collector Notes

This system was sold as‑is due to its age and condition.
Corrosion and apparent liquid damage significantly limited testing and represent common
failure points in early‑1990s Macintosh systems.

The unique startup melody sequence may be of interest to collectors or researchers
studying Quadra diagnostic behavior, analog board signaling, or early Macintosh sound ROM behavior.

This archived listing is maintained for long‑tail search visibility and may be useful
to collectors, parts harvesters, or restorers documenting failure symptoms in the Quadra series.
