Item Overview

This archived listing documents an original Apple Power Macintosh 8100/80AV,
a high‑end PowerPC‑based desktop Macintosh from Apple’s first PowerPC generation.
This unit was evaluated and sold as a vintage collectible intended for parts, repair,
restoration, or historical reference.

  • Model: Power Macintosh 8100/80AV (M1688)
  • Manufactured: September 9, 1994
  • Processor: PowerPC 601 @ 80 MHz
  • Memory: Unknown; three RAM sticks found loose inside the enclosure and included
  • Serial Number: XB4360441H0
  • Assembly: Assembled in USA

Condition at Time of Sale

At the time of evaluation, the system powered on but did not successfully boot into an operating system.
Observed behavior suggested multiple potential issues common to early PowerPC systems, including
media, memory, or PRAM battery‑related faults.

  • System powered on and produced video output via onboard video
  • Displayed flashing floppy disk icon with question mark
  • On one occasion, displayed the “frowning Macintosh” icon with hexadecimal error codes
  • No video output observed from an installed expansion video card
  • CD‑ROM drive continuously spun and did not eject
  • Floppy drive rejected boot disks shortly after insertion
  • Hard drive and hard drive caddy were not present
  • System date and time were likely incorrect, indicating a depleted PRAM battery

The enclosure exhibited significant age‑related degradation, including very brittle and yellowed plastic.
Small pieces of broken plastic were released when the case was opened for photography.
The CD‑ROM faceplate was missing. Broken plastic fragments were included with the unit.

Notably, the interior plastic above the expansion slots featured molded signatures,
likely from members of the original design or manufacturing team, a detail documented in the photos.

Included / Not Included

  • Included: Desktop unit, loose RAM modules found inside the case, broken plastic fragments
  • Not Included: Hard drive, hard drive caddy, monitor, keyboard, mouse, power cable, Mac OS installation media

Archival & Collector Notes

This system was sold as‑is due to its age, incomplete configuration, and condition.
Late‑1980s and 1990s Apple desktop plastics are known to be extremely brittle, and previous examples
of this model have suffered additional damage during shipment despite professional packing.
Local pickup was recommended when feasible.

This archived listing is maintained for long‑tail search visibility and may be useful to collectors,
restorers, or researchers studying early PowerPC troubleshooting symptoms,
model‑specific construction details, or historical Macintosh hardware examples.

This archived listing is preserved for historical reference and collector research.
