Description
New York Post – Monday, April 13, 1981 What you see in the pictures is what you get: all 72 pages are included. This is a very interesting old newspaper which features as the front page story coverage of the launch of STS-1, the first flight and first manned flight of the space shuttle piloted by astronauts John Young and Robert Crippen. The flight was threatened by the loss of some of the hear shield tiles during takeoff which would eventually destroy the shuttle upon reentry almost 22 years later in February of 2003. This newspaper features a centerfold picture of the liftoff of STS-1.
Some of the contents include:
- “‘CLIFFHANGER IN SPACE – Lifesaving tiles ripped from the rocketship”
- “Joe Louis dead”
- “Danger on the Spaceship – An otherwise ideal blastoff is marred by a handful of peeling tiles”
- “Columbia’s tile overcoat was always a headache”
- “Joe Louis loses final fight, dies of heart attack”
- London riots rage on; blacks battle 1000 bobbies
- and much more!
There are movie advertisements for:
- Lion of the Desert
- Nighthawks with Sylvester Stallone
- Ordinary People with Donald Sutherland and Mary Tyler Moore
- Excalibur
- The Postman Always Rings Twice
- and several more
This is in used condition with some wear, small tears, and creasing – please, EXAMINE THE PICTURES!.
